Used clothing stores such as Time Warp and Plato’s Closet are taking Baton Rouge by storm.
Josh Holder, manager of Time Warp, said the store is doing very well.
Time Warp, located on Government St., is a vintage clothing boutique carrying clothes from the 1920s through 1970s. The store’s clothing is separated into the respective decades.
Holder said people shop at Time Warp because it sells quality and hand-picked vintage clothing.
He said the store carries timeless clothing, but clothing that can be identified by its decade.
Lynsey Dupree, a mass communication student, said she shops at Time Warp because it has reasonably-priced vintage clothing and it has great employees.
She said the employees are well informed on the clothing and are helpful.
“If you have a party to go to and you are looking for something specific, you don’t have to rummage through clothes,” Dupree said.
She said shoppers can find what they need easily because their clothing is neatly divided by decades.
Holder said it is hard to find vintage clothing in Baton Rouge, which makes Time Warp important to the city.
“We are cheaper than the mall. Our clothes are fun, exciting and one-of-a-kind,” Holder said.
Holder said Time Warp carries vintage purses, hats, gloves, jewelry, eye-wear and clothing.
Plato’s Closet is a used clothing franchise, which began in Minnesota.
Although it is a franchise, Julie Finical, owner of the Siegen Drive location, said it is the only one in Louisiana — the next closest is in Dallas.
Finical said her store has gone beyond her business plan. She said they are constantly busy and doing well.
Finical said she opened the store about one year ago because she saw the need for a store to buy and sell used name-brand clothing.
Finical said her store is a great way to help the community because people can buy name-brand clothing at one-third of the retail price.
Jennifer Lawrence, a Plato’s Closet shopper, said she does not mind wearing used clothing because she can buy great clothes and save money.
Even though he is an older professional man, John Poltrock, also a shopper at Plato’s Closet, said he enjoys shopping there because he can pay “dirt-cheap prices for name-brand clothing.”
Finical said she will buy any gently used name-brand clothing.
Plato’s Closet carries clothes, sunglasses, belts, purses, shoes, body jewelry and even some bedroom accessories.
