It’s 2 a.m. the late-night studiers need some energy foodand bar patrons are craving something to fill their stomachs.
From fast food to sit-down eateries, the campus area has manyplaces to eat late at night.
Cane’s Chicken Fingers is known for its chicken tenders,crinkled fries, Texas toast and famous Cane’s sauce. Twolocations near campus are at Highland Road outside the North Gatesof campus and West Lee Drive. Both locations have drive-thru anddine-in options open until 3 a.m.
Another chicken option open late and known for its wings isPluckers on Burbank Drive.
Pluckers offers both delivery and dine-in options and is openSunday through Wednesday from 11 to 2 a.m. and from 11 to 3 a.m. onThursday through Saturday.
Cashier Christine Piper said one of Pluckers’ most popularitems is its chicken tender basket, which costs less than $8.
Pluckers also offers a variety of sauces with its wings,including all-American ranch dressing and the ever spicy”fire in the hole.” They also offer fried pickles,cheese fries, waffle fries, corn on the cob and items from thegrill. For a full menu and prices, visit www.pluckers.net.
For late-night Italian food, Rotollo’s on Bob PettitBoulevard in Tigerland is open until 3 a.m. Monday through Saturdayand until 1 a.m. on Sundays. Both dine-in and delivery options areavailable during these times, according to Jordan Gillette,Rotollo’s kitchen manager.
Gillette said some of the most popular items include the deluxecombo calzone or pizza. The calzone sells for $7 and the 14-inchpizza sells for $15. She said the sandwiches are very good aswell.
Throughout the week, Rotollo’s offers variousspecials.
On Monday nights, Rotollo’s offers 25-cent wings tocoincide with Monday Night Football and Wednesdays they offer $3.99calzones all day, according to Gillette.
There are several restaurants near campus that are open 24hours.
The drive-thru at McDonald’s on Burbank Drive is open 24hours a day. They offer their normal menu until midnight and thenhave a condensed menu, consisting of french fries, quarter poundersand certain breakfast items.
Jack-in-the-Box on Highland Road also is open 24 hours. Theyoffer their entire menu throughout the night, including their valuemenu. They have tacos, curly fries and chicken sandwiches.
One sit-down location that is open 24 hours is Louie’sCafe, right outside of the North Gates. Louie’s opened in1941 and moved to its current location on West State Street in thelate 1980s, according to Nicole Zaleski, a psychology junior andwaitress at Louie’s. Since then, it has remained a popularspot among the campus community.
“We have the coolest staff and the best breakfast food inthe area. We are a different kind of place,” Zaleskisaid.
Louie’s slogan is “Home of the Veggie Omelet.”Zaleski said the cost for a regular size veggie omelet is $7.25plus tax. They also offer hamburgers, pancakes and severalsandwiches.
“You can spend anywhere from $3 to $15 just on yourselfdepending on what you get,” Zaleski said.
