The movie “Glory Road” will finally shoot thedramatic final scene this Saturday at the Parker Coliseum with thehelp of about 4,000 volunteers.
Filming of the scene was originally scheduled for Sept. 18 atthe Riverside Centroplex, but due to Hurricane Ivan and the use ofthe Centroplex as an evacuation shelter, filming had to bepostponed.
“Shooting had to be pushed back about 10 days,” saidLisa Beasley, the crowd promotion producer.
The film needs about 4,000 extras, and right now production hasabout 2,000 individual reservations, Beasley said.
With student turnout lower than they would like, castingrepresentatives have set up a table in the Union to try and recruitboth paid and non-paid extras and gotten in touch with 80 groups oncampus including sororities and fraternities, Beasley said.
“There hasn’t been a huge response yet,”Beasley said. “Originally, we were set up to competewith LSU football … I guess we just haven’t been ableto find a day that’s really empty.”
The casting representatives contacted Kappa Sigma fraternity inorder to try to recruit extras, fraternity president Michael Busadasaid.
“A lot of people were really excited about it,”Busada said. “Plus, I think it’s good for LSU, with amovie being shot on campus. It shows that Louisiana does haveopportunities for graduates.”
One LSU sorority member even got a paid extra role in one of thebeginning scenes in the movie.
Jennifer Borner, an English junior and member of Kappa AlphaTheta sorority, was selected to be one of about 20 extras used in aprom scene shot in New Orleans on Oct. 8.
Advertisements for extras were posted in Esplanade Mall inKenner, Borner said.
She did not hear about it from her sorority until this week.
After signing up, producers called her back within a couple ofdays Borner said.
“It was really cool to see all the work cometogether,” Borner said. “It’s hard work;it’s not as glamorous as people make it out to be. Itwas interesting to see people get to be so creative.”
It took almost 17 hours for about 10 minutes of film to becompleted, Borner said.
Ashley Brown, the president of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, discussed the movie shoot at the sorority’s meeting on Mondaynight in order to try to drum up more volunteers. But, it was alast-minute thing, Brown said.
In addition, several prizes are being offered in order to drawin more volunteers to the filming.
Shooting will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and volunteers shouldcall early in order to reserve a spot for filming, Beasleysaid.
