Gov. Kathleen Blanco will not consider LSU Board of Supervisorsmember Roger Ogden for reappointment after receiving informationindicating Ogden does not live in the district he was appointed torepresent.
Ogden said it came to his attention late last week that hisresidence was redistricted from the Second Congressional Districtto the First Congressional District without his knowledge.
The First Congressional District includes St. Tammany,Tangipahoa and Washington parishes and parts of Orleans andJefferson parishes.
The Second Congressional District includes parts of Jeffersonand Orleans parishes.
Ogden, whose term officially expired in June, immediatelynotified Blanco to tell her he was no longer eligible for theSecond District seat, he said.
“Evidently, in the 2000 census, my districtchanged,” Ogden said. “I was just notified of this andimmediately confirmed to the governor that my appointment was nolonger appropriate.”
Blanco appoints many people to different boards every year, according to Bob Mann, the Communication Director in theGovernor’s Office.
Ogden removed his name from the list of those being consideredfor reappointment late last week, Mann said.
Ogden served two terms as chairman of the LSU Board ofSupervisors for the 2002-2003 and the 2003-2004 school years.
The board elects the officers to two-year terms. There are twoboard members and one at-large member for each congressionaldistrict, each with staggered terms.
Ogden said he will continue to serve with Rod West as one of theboard representatives for the Second District until Blanco makes anew appointment.
All members of the Board of Supervisors serve without pay and”the sacrifices we make for LSU are substantial,” Ogdensaid. “One sacrifice I am not prepared to make is my place ofresidence.”
C. Stewart Slack was elected to succeed Ogden as board chairmanon Aug. 20, 2004.
