Volunteers at St. James Episcopal Church pack five hundred “We Care” bags each week.
The bags contain non-perishable food items such as Vienna sausage, tuna, apple sauce and a bottle of water.
The church gives out nearly one hundred bags a week to those dealing with food insecurity.
For some in the Baton Rouge community, the bags are an essential.
“St. James ministry had helped me a lot, coming here from being homeless, they’ve given us food, places, clothes, they’ve offered a lot of help,” St. James Community Connection Event Attendee, Stephen Andrews said.
“The women here, the men here, they are all very kind and they do what they can for their community,” Andrews said. “I appreciate them.”
St. James also distributes the “We Care” bags at their monthly Community Connection event.
