The LSU men’s basketball team had a slow start against Northwestern State, 77-53. The defense lacked aggression, and their shots were not falling in their favor. The tigers ended the night a 45% FG and 37% 3F. Despite their struggles during game play, they locked in on the free throw line making 15-18 shots.
Northwestern State did not have an impressive performance during either half, but they played better than LSU in the first half. The score entering half-time was 26-25, demons on top.
However, they did not keep the lead for long. The tigers began to gain momentum in the second half, and Corey Chest can take the credit for that.
Chest ended the game with 10 offensive rebounds, seven defensive rebounds, five blocks and nine points. He had a great game on both sides of the ball, and he was the balance this team needed.
Jordan Sears was the team’s top-scorer with 18 points, shooting 6-11 from the 3-point line. Dji Bailey led the team in assists, 4.
The tigers played at their own tempo in the second half, and it served them well. Without their change in momentum this game would not have ended in their favor. Now, they need to start their next game with this energy and dominance, instead of taking the first half to warm-up.
