LSU Women’s Basketball returned home to the PMAC and obliterated the NC Central Eagles by a final score of 135-44, with the hype surrounding this talented roster continuing to increase.
During their trip to the Bahamas last week, the Tigers secured two victories against the tough-witted Washington Huskies and the No. 20-ranked NC State Wolfpack.
Bringing the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship trophy back home to Baton Rouge, the Tigers have their sights on acquiring more hardware as the season progresses.
With this dominating performance, LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Mulkey continues to place her name at the top of the program’s history books.
In this blowout victory against NC Central, Mulkey captured her 100th career win as LSU’s head coach.
Additionally, in her fourth season and 114th game as LSU’s head coach, Mulkey becomes the fastest coach to 100 wins in LSU program history.
Shifting our focus to the player’s performance on the court, senior forward Aneesah Morrow notched her seventh consecutive double-double of the season.
Finishing with 17 pints and 11 rebounds, Morrow continues to make a compelling case as one of the nation’s most talented women’s college basketball players.
However, one of the most entertaining players to watch this season happens to be one of her teammates.
Entering her third year wearing purple and gold, superstar junior guard Flau’Jae Johnson finished with a game-high 22 points and continues to prove that her bag is limitless.
For the first time this season, LSU fans were able to watch Mississippi State guard Mjracle Sheppard suit up and take the court.
Starting the season off with a stress fracture that she suffered before the team’s first exhibition game, the coaching staff remained patient while waiting for Sheppard’s injury to heal successfully.
With being completely healthy, sophomore guard Mjarcle Sheppard absolutely transformed the game on both sides of the court.
While finishing with 10 points and seven rebounds, she also tied her career-high with seven steals.
Known for her defensive intensity, Sheppard was pivotal in preventing the NC Central Eagles from scoring a single point throughout the entire second quarter.
When looking at contributions off the bench, Arkansas transfer forward Jersey Wolfenbarger continues to provide high levels of energy in her limited minutes of playing time.
Wolfenbarger, who has adopted the nickname “WOOO” by fans which echoes across the PMAC after every bucket she makes, finished with an impressive 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kaylin Gilbert, a junior transfer guard from the University of Arizona, finished with a sneaky 19 points to go along with four steals on the defensive side of the court.
Another fan favorite, guard Last-Tear Poa, showed many instances of aggressiveness. Poa managed to finish with the same number of free throws made as the entirety of NC Central’s roster (10 made FTs).
No. 7 LSU Women’s Basketball will look to continue its winning streak in its next matchup against the Stanford Cardinal on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 8:00 p.m. CST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
