Louisiana is still feeling the effects of this rare winter weather. State officials and LSU have shared updates to help everyone stay safe.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) warns that even though the snow is gone, icy roads are still a danger. Elevated highways and bridges are especially risky. Key closures in East Baton Rouge Parish include:

– I-10:
– Westbound between Highland Road and the I-10/I-12 split.
– Eastbound between LA 415 and Washington Street.
– Westbound between the I-10/I-12 split and LA 415.
– I-110: Both directions between the I-10/I-110 split and U.S. 61 Natchez.
– LA 67 (Plank Road): Both directions on the Plank Road bridge.
The following has now reopened:
– I-12 eastbound: From Airline Highway to the Amite River Bridge.
Avoid driving if possible, and check DOTD’s website and social media for updates on road conditions.
LSU is keeping classes and non-essential activities suspended due to the cold weather and icy conditions. Essential staff should report as directed. Check LSU’s website and social media for updates.
The Louisiana State Police shared these tips for staying safe:
– Don’t drive unless you have to. If you do, drive slowly and carefully.
– Keep an emergency kit in your car with blankets, water, and a flashlight.
– Stay updated through local news and weather alerts.
– Report any icy or unsafe roads to authorities.
Students loved seeing snow on campus yesterday, calling it a “Winter Wonderland.” But with icy roads and freezing temperatures sticking around, it’s important to stay safe.
