Over the past week, President Trump has passed many executive orders regarding stricter immigration. Lea Romero, owner of La Salvadorena talked about how the executive orders have affected her and her business.
La Salvadorena is a restaurant just down the road from LSU that serves authentic Latin food. It’s owned by Lea Romero, a mother of two from El Salvador. Romero immigrated to Louisiana over 10 years ago.
All of the employees at La Salvadorena are single mothers and live around the area. Romero says she likes it because all the food has a “woman’s touch.”
Not only does the restaurant offer cheap, handmade food, but they also sell extravagant flower bouquets that are handmade by Romero and her daughters.
A customer can also find essentials like air fresheners, super glue and pain medication at the restaurant. Romero says she wants customers to come to her business and find everything they need.
She says most of her customers are college students and the Latin community, but since Trump has been in office, Romero has noticed her Latin customers haven’t been coming in as much. Her sales have dropped drastically and she worries that if business continues this way she will have to close down.
