LSU track and field’s Tima Godbless and Jelani Watkins received SEC weekly honors after impressive performances at the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
Sophomore Godbless was awarded Women’s Runner of the Week and freshman Watkins earned Men’s Freshman of the Week.
Godbless ran a conference-leading time in the 60 meter event and set a new personal record in the 200 meter. The time for her 60 meter was 7.16 seconds, which Godbless recorded in the semifinal before ultimately skipping out of the final. Her time for the 200 meter clock was 23.26 seconds and tied her for seventh in this event in the SEC.
Watkins clocked a 6.63 second run in the 60 meter and ran 20.58 seconds in the 200 meter. His personal record in the 60 meter tied the No. 7 time in LSU performance history with former LSU football and track star Donte Jackson. Watkins now ranks ninth in the SEC in both events.
