The LSU Volleyball team took on Ole Miss back to back this weekend and came up with one win and one loss. Consistency seems to be the main struggle for the Tigers so far this season when they play double headers. After they won 3-2 in the first match, The Purple and Gold knew the second match would be difficult defensively.
“I think we’re definitely focused on starting strong, just don’t give up a set and don’t give up a point,” Outside Hitter Sanaa Dotson said. “They obviously have a really good middle so we’re focusing on trying to stop her. She had a pretty good night tonight.”
The team started the second match off strong and pulled off a win in the first set, which has been a struggle for them this season. LSU has not won the first set in a match since they played Tulane on Sept. 17. However, they couldn’t keep their momentum, dropping the second set 21-25.
“We have to learn how to sustain that throughout the course of our match,” Head Coach Tonya Johnson said. “I just thought we were a little up and down today and I think it’s hard to play an opponent back to back. We’ve just got to learn how to sustain that momentum on our side of the net.”
Ultimately, the Tigers lost the second match against Ole Miss 2-3. This is the second week in a row LSU split it’s double header after going 1-1 against Kentucky; however, the players’ confidence has not been shaken.
“I definitely think it’s a little bit of a tricky schedule playing an opponent back to back,” Right Side/Outside Hitter Hannah Jacobs said. “I think the key to staying consistent and getting two wins in a weekend is if we stick to the game plan and follow it a bit better in that second match.”
The Tigers are looking to work on their first contact skills and putting pressure on their opponents before facing Auburn next week.
