After a 32-31 win against Alabama Saturday night, LSU jumped eight spots, from No. 15 to No. 7 in the AP Poll. LSU also moved up nine spots in the AFCA Coaches Poll from No. 17 to No. 8.
This game is the second Top 10 victory in a row for the Tigers after dominating Ole Miss before their bye week. It was also the second time in a row LSU fans stormed the field to celebrate.
In Saturday’s battle for the SEC West, the Bayou Bengals were the underdogs. Over the last ten years, the Tigers have only beaten the Crimson Tide once: a 46-41 victory in 2019 before they went on to win the National Championship.
After their loss by one point against Florida State in the first game of the Brian Kelly era, many fans doubted the Tigers would have a successful season. Now, they hold the top spot in the SEC West and have a chance at making the college football playoffs.
Jayden Daniels led the team in rushing yards and completed 68.8 percent of his passes against Alabama. One of those completed passes, caught by freshman tight-end Mason Taylor, won the game for the Tigers during a winner-take-all two-point conversion.
Next, the Purple and Gold will go head-to-head with the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville. With just three games left and only two SEC matchups, LSU hopes to keep their winning streak alive.
