The LSU Football team spoke to the media after last Saturday’s big win over Alabama on a two-point conversion in overtime. After their victory, fans rushed the field for the second time in a row.
Despite coming off a 32-31 win against their longtime rivals, Head Coach Brian Kelly has told the team it’s time to shift their focus to their matchup against Arkansas this weekend. According to wide receiver Jaray Jenkins, Coach Kelly has a 24-hour rule for celebrating wins.
“We’re worried about Arkansas,” Jenkins said. “That game we played last week, we put it in the past. Nobody talks about it anymore.”
Jenkins also addressed how the cold weather may affect the matchup against Arkansas. According to him, it will not. He said the team has practiced in cold weather and will be prepared for Saturday’s game.
Running back Josh Williams emphasized the importance of consistency as the team prepares to face Arkansas in Fayetteville. While he leads the LSU running backs in rushing yards, Williams also told the media he takes pride in his role as a blocker.
“If we don’t win against Arkansas it doesn’t matter,” Williams said.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Micah Baskerville spoke about his connection to Arkansas as a Shreveport native. Baskerville said he even considered choosing Arkansas, but wanted to stay in his home state.
As a senior, Baskerville has stepped up as a leader on the team. However, he took the time to compliment younger players like freshmen offensive linemen Will Campbell and Emery Jones, who earned their starting positions this year.
“They stepped up for sure,” Baskerville said. “They’re big, mean, nasty, tough guys.”
The Alabama matchup was the first time safety Major Burns played since the Tigers played Mississippi State in September. Despite a neck injury, Burns kept his faith and gave credit to the training staff members who got him healthy again.
“I believed in them and we took the small steps every day to get back,” Burns said. “Shoutout LSU training staff.”
As the Bayou Bengals continue preparation for their sixth SEC matchup in a row, their mindset remains the same. They go in with confidence and take it one game at a time.
