After a win against the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday, LSU Gymnastics Head Coach Jay Clark told the media he wants to challenge the team to be more consistent as they move forward in the season.
“We continue to put ourselves in situations where we have to fight,” Coach Clark said alongside gymnasts Haleigh Bryant and Aleah Finnegan. “These two sitting next to me continue to bail us out.”
Since losing All-SEC gymnast Kiya Johnson to injuries this season, the team relies on high scores from Bryant and Finnegan.
“I used to call Kiya and Haleigh the two hammers,” Coach Clark said. “Maybe we got a new hammer.”
The title of “hammer” comes after Finnegan received her first collegiate perfect 10 for her floor routine.
“We say a lot… it’s a lot of ‘we,'” Finnegan said. “That’s really what I thought before I went out there tonight. I wanted to do it for this team.”
With a final score of 197.700 to 196.925, the Purple and Gold defeated the Bulldogs and got their highest score of the season.
The Tigers face Auburn in their next meet on Feb. 10.
