LSU Women’s Basketball proved their first loss of the season does not define them as they defeated Ole Miss 69-60 Thursday night.
After last week’s loss to No. 1 South Carolina, all eyes were on the Tigers this week. Sophomore Angel Reese responded with a career-high 36 points in addition to 20 rebounds.
“I’m just doing whatever it takes to win,” Reese said. “I know last game I didn’t help my team win, and mentally it was tough on me for the past two days.”
“I knew coming out tonight, my team needed me,” she added. “It was just about how I was going to respond tonight, and I feel like I responded well.”
Fifth-year senior Alexis Morris says the Tigers performance Thursday is a reflection of the team’s character. Morris answered with 15 points of her own.
“We don’t change what we do because we lost,” Morris said. “We do the same thing going to practice. It’s all about the response, like Coach has been telling us all week. It’s all about the response. They gave us their best shot, but they haven’t seen our best shot yet.”
Coach Kim Mulkey’s goal is for the team to finish second in the league, and she says the road to a championship means defeating the Gamecocks. For now, finishing the rest of the regular season strong and maintaining a positive team attitude are her top priorities.
“They’re going to get frustrated at each other,” Mulkey said. “I’m going to get frustrated at them. It’s that time of the year. That’s why you can never have a negative thought when you go to practice this time of the year.”
With only three regular season games left, LSU hopes to pick up another win against the Florida Gators Sunday.
