The LSU Men’s Basketball team defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 84 to 77 Wednesday to end their 14-game losing streak.
LSU and Vanderbilt played at a competitive level from the start, but the Tigers took a seven-point lead at the half. Out of their last 14 games, the Tigers only led at half twice: once by three points against Florida and once by two points against Georgia.
“We were on that long losing streak, and we came out tonight with the energy and the preparation it took for us these last two days,” KJ Williams said. “We took it to heart. We came out with the mindset that no matter what, we’re going to get this win.”
Head Coach Matt McMahon says he wanted his players to have a positive mindset entering the game. He hopes to build on this win the rest of the season.
“This is where you find out what you’re made of,” McMahon said. “It’s obviously been a very difficult stretch. The streak is certainly something we don’t spend much time talking about. We’re trying to focus on the things we need to do to play better and find ways to win.”
Forward KJ Williams scored a season-high 35 points and ten rebounds. Guard Adam Miller had 18 points and three assists.
“My team…we never really ever laid down ever,” Miller said. “I just want to give kudos to my team, my coaches. It’s easy to lay down right now, and we didn’t do that.”
The Purple and Gold look for a consecutive win against Ole Miss Saturday with three regular season games left.
