Fans packed the PMAC Monday where they welcomed LSU Women’s Basketball home to Baton Rouge after their National Championship win Sunday night.
The Tigers dominated against the Iowa Hawkeyes, finishing with a final score of 102-85. Fans were eager to see the team after the win and began lining up at 11 a.m. to get a good seat to watch them bring in the trophy.
“They were fantastic. They are a really good team and just scary,” an LSU fan in the crowd said. “All of them can shoot, not just Caitlin Clark. It was just a fantastic matchup, and I’m so proud of the Tigers.”
During the celebration, Head Coach Kim Mulkey honored each individual player. She also thanked LSU fans for their support of women’s basketball this season and expressed its impact on her.
“You guys started filling up this PMAC before any championship,” Mulkey said. “You came for games and it snowballed, and it kept getting better and better and better.”
Dan Borné also said a few words about the efforts of the LSU Women’s Basketball trainers and staff who helped the girls stay on top of their game all season.
The Tigers made history with their 102 point-win, which broke the record for the highest scoring NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Game.
“We welcome home the 2023 National Champions… your Fighting Tigers of LSU!” Borné said.
A parade in honor of the National Champions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5.
