LSU Spring Football practice was moved indoors due to inclement weather this morning, but players still discussed their chemistry and growth after.
Offensive lineman Marlon Martinez shared that he and Quarterback Jayden Daniels have grown closer since he has been practicing at center.
As they improve their connection as a unit this spring, Martinez believes LSU’s offensive line has the potential to be the best in the country.
“I feel that way because I believe in speaking it into existence,” Martinez said. “We are 100% committed.”
Wide receiver Chris Hilton explained the mindset of the wide receiving core. Friendly competition motivates each player to improve, according to Hilton.
“That’s what you want in the room,” Hilton said. “You want everyone to push the next man, and that’s what is going to make us better as a group.”
Linebacker Omar Speights talked about his transition from the northwest United States to the southeast. Although he has not had boiled crawfish yet, he has gotten a dose of the up-and-down Louisiana weather.
Speights also shed light on the dynamics of the defensive side of the ball. Standout freshman linebacker Harold Perkins has only gotten better since the end of last season, and Speights said he hopes to be a leader to the younger players.
“I’m always trying to get better, trying to watch extra film and show up early,” Speights said. “I’m trying to bring intensity to everything I’m doing and trying to be an example.”
Defensive end Ovie Oghoufo, who transferred to LSU from the University of Texas in January, spoke about his opportunity to play for another year because of COVID-19 rules.
Oghoufo started his career at Notre Dame under Brian Kelly and is excited to be reunited with him.
“I like his mentality and his winning mindset and the way he builds up a program,” Oghoufo said. “He’s the same dude, and he’s about business.”
