The No. 1 LSU Baseball team fell to the unranked ULL Ragin’ Cajuns tonight with a final score of 8-5.
Third baseman Tommy White kicked off scoring in the first inning after he singled to right field and first baseman Cade Beloso tripled to right center, allowing him to run home.
The Cajuns matched and doubled the Tigers’ score with two in the second inning.
At the bottom of the second, outfielder Brayden Jobert doubled to right center. Jordan Thompson grounded out to second base and Jobert advanced to third base. Then the Purple and Gold tied it up when Jack Merrifield grounded out to second base which allowed Jobert to score.
The third inning brought two more for the Cajuns, with a home run from Heath Hood that also allowed Carson Roccaforte to score.
Two more points for ULL in the fourth inning brought the score to 6-3. The fifth and sixth innings were uneventful for both teams.
Conor Higgs hit the second home run for the Cajuns in the seventh inning, which also allowed John Taylor to score. The Tigers then trailed by five points, making the score 8-3.
After another uneventful inning, the Cajuns still led by five points by the top of the ninth. However, they could not add to their eight points to increase their lead.
First baseman Tre’ Morgan hit a homer and Hayden Travinski scored, bumping the score to 8-5 at the bottom of the ninth.
Despite their best efforts, the Bayou Bengals could not redeem themselves in the ninth inning and the Cajuns handed them their seventh loss of the season.
