It was an unfortunate night for the Tigers as they took on the Tide in Tuscaloosa. After a back and forth first half, Jayden Daniels took a hit that took him out of the game.
It was an offensive showdown of a first half that ended in a tied ball game. Daniels had one rushing and two passing touchdowns, while quarterback Jalen Milroe rushed for all three of Alabama’s first half touchdowns. In the second half, however, the Tigers fell flat.
“We’re playing a top ten team on the road,” Head Coach Brian Kelly said. “You can’t play good. We played good tonight. Good is not good enough. You have to play elite when you go on the road and play a top 10 team.”
LSU was already down by two touchdowns, but losing Daniels early in the fourth quarter meant losing all hope for a win. After the initial hit, he sat out for one play and then went back in the game for another play before being ruled out for good.
“He’s tough,” Kelly said. “The runs that he had tonight were outstanding runs that kept drives alive. If he’s not out there, we’re not even in the game. He made a difference. But I’m sure there are things that he would like to do better as well.”
Medical staff chose to take Daniels out in case of a concussion after a questionable hit to his head. But before his injury, Daniels racked up 219 passing yards and 163 rushing yards.
“Spectacular,” running back Josh Williams said when asked about Daniels’ ability to run. “Some of the runs he makes surprises me sometimes. It’s almost like a cheat code. To have him and to have that versatility is amazing.”
Bottom line is, tonight was the Tigers’ third loss of the season. It may cost them an SEC Championship run, but they hope to finish the season strong. Their next matchup is Nov. 11 against the Florida Gators.
