Despite the solid cases for all four Heisman finalists, LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels won by a landslide. To understand why he was over 200 first place votes above the runner-up, he had five Heisman-worthy moments that stood out.
After trailing for most of a gritty game against Missouri, Daniels proved his clutch-ability by throwing a 29-yard touchdown pass to Malik Nabers that put them in the lead with less than three minutes to play.
What Daniels is arguably best known for, however, is his ability to run. Unfortunately for Florida, Daniels had two of his best runs of the season against them, taking both the 85 and 51-yarders to the house.
“He comes back with one of the most exciting and obviously historic games the next week against a rival at Florida,” LSU Football Head Coach Brian Kelly said. “I think that in itself is probably what really catapulted our efforts to say, listen, we have somebody here that is so special.”
Some of Daniels’ best stats of the season came against Georgia State. With over 500 total yards and eight touchdowns in that game alone, he proved himself as a serious Heisman contender.
“I’m happy,” Daniels said. “I’m excited. I’m blessed that I was able to win the award and to be a part of a fraternity that I watched growing up. I’m just excited honestly.”
Daniels had one last Heisman-worthy moment in the Texas A&M matchup on a fourth down in the third quarter. To get the first down and eventually the win, he ran for 49 yards when he only needed four.
With all those Heisman caliber moments, it is no surprise “That Kid” Jayden got to take home the trophy.
