LSU Softball Head Coach Beth Torina spoke to media on Friday after the team’s tiger-on-tiger matchup against Jackson State in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament.
“We did enough,” Torina said. “Was it the most beautiful game you’ve ever seen us play? No, but we did enough to win and move on.”
LSU pitcher Raelin Chaffin found success on the mound, throwing her third shutout and seven season-high strikeouts.
“We’re lucky we had Raelin [Chaffin] throw a great game on the mound today. Just never a doubt, never a moment where I felt it got away from her. We executed the plan today, did what we needed, and are moving on.”
With their victory over Jackson State, the Bayou Bengals’ second round opponent will be the Southern Illinois Salukis, who defeated the California Golden Bears in the first matchup of the day at Tiger Park.
“Their defense was incredible today,” Coach Torina said. “They play hard, just hustle. A lot of energy… It feels like they’re well coached, well prepared and it’ll be a challenge.”
