LSU Softball pitcher Raelin Chaffin and infielder Karli Petty spoke to the media after their victory over Jackson State in the first round of the NCAA Regional tournament at Tiger Park on Friday.
Chaffin pitched her third shutout and seven strikeouts in the tenth complete game of her career while only allowing three walks and two hits.
“It’s really cool whenever your coaches and teammates instill the confidence in you that they have,” Chaffin said. “For me, it’s huge to go out their knowing they believe I can do it.”
The LSU offense remained consistent throughout the game, scoring in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
“Play with confidence and play free,” Petty said when asked about advice she would give to the younger girls on the team. “You’re your best self when you play free in who you are and that’s how we all should be.”
The Purple and Gold hope to maintain that confidence as they prepare to face Southern Illinois in the second round of the tournament Saturday.
