After the first day of full pads at Fall Camp Wednesday, offensive coordinator Joe Sloan spoke with the media about how the LSU offense looks.
He mentioned that the tight ends group will be one to watch this season and plans to get them more involved in his offensive schemes.
“We have an unbelievable group in that room,” Sloan said. “That group is one of the most exciting groups on our football team. They’re pushing each other and we’ve seen a lot of growth in the first six practices.”
Coach Sloan also talked about quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who patiently waited for a starting spot at LSU behind Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels for two years.
“I’ve watched him grow as a leader this offseason and how he’s really been able to let it happen naturally and let his work speak for itself,” Sloan said. “We’re going to put him in positions to use that arm and to use his decision making ability. We’re always going to build around our personnel.”
The Purple and Gold offensive line is widely regarded as one of the best in the country, and Coach Sloan also gave that group their flowers.
As for the wide receiving core, it is extremely difficult to follow up two first-round draft picks in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., but Coach Sloan seems confident they can fill those roles.
Not only did he speak to the abilities of Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton and CJ Daniels, Sloan also mentioned some of the younger players who stand out so far.
“The level from maybe guys that you haven’t talked about you see elevating,” Sloan said. “There’s more than just those three who have been flashing in different ways. It’s definitely a fun three guys, but I think it goes much deeper than those three.”
