LSU Volleyball is in the thick of SEC play as they took on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the PMAC on Sunday in front of 2,162 fans. The attendance was the fifth largest in program history.
The Tigers started off slow, losing the first set 25-21. Alabama secured their lead early and maintained it throughout the set, only letting LSU come within one point of them a few times.
After the first set, the Tigers’ offense stepped up, snagging a 6-2 lead early in the second set. At the timeout, the Tigers were still up by three but the Tide eventually tied it up at 23 points. Outside hitter Jurnee Robinson gave LSU the final edge with two back to back kills that secured set two for the Purple and Gold 25-23.
The beginning of the third set was close, but the Tigers eventually led by four at 19-15 and then by seven at 24-17. However, the final stretch of the set was no cake walk, with Alabama managing five consecutive points to make it 24-22. At game point, Robinson sealed the set again with a kill.
In the fourth set, the Tide took an early 11-5 lead, but the Tigers came back to tie the set at 13 and then again at 20. Middle blocker Jessica Jones secured LSU’s first lead at 21-20 with an ace, but Alabama scored the next two points, making it 22-21.
After the Tide took a 24-23 lead, the Tigers locked down the victory with a 3-0 run including two kills from middle blocker Angelina Lee and a block combination between her and Robinson.
The Tigers will continue SEC play on the road with a match at Tennessee on Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
