With being ranked as a top 15 kicker in college football by FOX Sports, plenty of adversity is faced. Redshirt Junior, Damian Ramos, has faced a unique journey since becoming the starting kicker at LSU.
“It’s very different from like other positions. Pressure-wise, just because most of the other positions, you know, have the pressure of memorizing plays and knowing their assignments and all this,” Ramos said.
With such little room for error, kickers must be mentally tough to experience success on the field and Ramos believes in manifestation.
“You know, I think your mind is the most powerful thing you have and you got to even convince yourself,” Ramos added.
One prime example following the LSU VS FSU game in 2022, after Ramos missed the extra point.
“Our meeting right after the game, my coach came up to me and he goes, ‘Hey, if I were you I would just stay off of social media,” Ramos said.
With redemption on his mind, Ramos is came off the best season of his career at LSU in 2023, leading all of college football with 78 extra points made and boasting an 80% made field goal percentage last season and is expected to improve even more for the 2024 season.
