After an exciting season opener victory against the UL Monroe Warhawks, LSU Men’s Basketball forward Jalen Reed and Kansas State transfer guard Cam Carter addressed the media to discuss the reason behind a commanding 95-60 final score.
As one of the few returning players from last season, junior forward Jalen Reed is becoming a focal point on the offensive side of the court. With becoming comfortable with this increased responsibility, Reed believes that the hard work from the offseason is starting to pay off.
“I put in a lot of work this off-season, in the weight room and on the court,” Reed said. “Tonight, I want to give credit to my teammates. You know, they trust in me. Giving me the ball in positions for me to score, and they made it a lot easier [for] me.”
Being dished the ball by his teammates, Reed became immersed in a scoring mentality.
Reed recorded a career-high 24 points with a nearly perfect shooting effort from the field and the free throw line (8/9 FG and 8/8 FT). He also finished with eight rebounds and two blocks.
As one of the veterans on this roster, Reed understands the expectations for the remainder of the season.
“I’ve been here for two years and [have] been able to see what it looks like to be on losing teams,” Reed said. “You know, just learning from past mistakes and doing better with this team. I have a lot of great belief in this team.”
Kansas State transfer guard Cam Carter played in his first game as a Tiger and put on a spectacular performance on both ends of the court.
Carter finished with 21 points and connected on four three-pointers. Considering his improvements in shooting, Carter takes pride in his decision to transfer to LSU.
“I give all glory to God, because I couldn’t do it without him… he really led me here and… it’s a dream come true,” Carter said. “My hard work, as you can see, behind the three-point line… I can say that I came in here and put up a lot of shots.”
With explosive play so far from the guard position, the new faces that make up the depth chart for this season’s roster each play an essential role in the team’s overall construction.
In regards to the team’s ability to score in abundance, Carter contributes this success to the team’s developing chemistry.
“It’s special because in practice, we learn from each other,” Carter said. “You got [Jordan] Sears, he’s like a little rat. He’s just so fast… he can switch gears quick and just learning from him to switch gears and stuff like that… we all take from each other I feel like. ”
LSU Men’s Basketball’s next matchup will be against Alabama State on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. CST at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
