LSU Women’s Basketball came out victorious against the Tulane Green Wave in a hard-fought battle by a final score of 85-74, with the rivalry between the two biggest universities in Louisiana as strong as ever.
Superstar junior guard Flau’Jae Johnson continues to demonstrate why her name has remained in the mix as one of the best players in all of women’s college basketball.
Finishing with a game-high 25 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, Johnson’s double-double allowed the Tigers to outperform the Green Wave on both sides of the court.
However, the Green Wave refused to go down that easily.
Tulane guard Victoria Keenan started the game with only one thought in mind: Shoot the lights out.
And that she did.
In the first half alone, Keenan made seven three-pointers, leading all scorers with 21 points.
Notably, coming out of halftime, Flau’Jae Johnson decided to switch onto Keenan.
With Johnson as her primary defensive matchup, she would be scoreless for the remainder of the game.
With placing such a primary focus on stopping Keenan, another Tulane guard would make things interesting during the middle of the fourth quarter.
Tulane guard Kyren Whittington was the main contributor to a 14-0 run for the Green Wave with just over four minutes remaining in an eight-point ball game.
Whittington would finish with a team-high 24 points (6-7 FT) and six rebounds as well.
However, the Tigers would manage to shut the door and put things away behind one veteran player.
Standout senior forward Aneesah Morrow recorded her fourth double-double of the season (out of six games), finishing with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
She is one double-double away from reaching 80 career double-doubles.
One player made her presence known on the court tonight and had a sneaky, excellent performance.
Junior forward Jersey Wolfenbarger, who transferred from the Arkansas Razorbacks, finished with 15 points (7-12 FG) and eight rebounds to go along with two blocks.
Last-Tear Poa, who has increasingly become a fan favorite for the Tiger faithful, was able to knock down her first bucket of the season on a quick layup after an in-bounds pass late in the third quarter.
Mississippi State transfer guard Mjarcle Sheppard remains out with a stress fracture that she suffered before the team’s first exhibition game this season.
However, the Tigers hope Sheppard will return to practice this week and is likely to take the court as the team approaches more highly competitive matchups against Power Four teams.
No. 7 LSU Women’s Basketball will travel to the Bahamas next week to face the Washington Huskies (4-1) and potentially matchup against ranked No. 18 North Carolina State (2-2).
This would be the first ranked opponent that the Tigers has played against early into this season.
The Tigers’ next home game will be against NC Central on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2:00 p.m. CST.
