LSU Baseball closed out a three-game series sweep vs. Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday that showcased the team’s pitching depth and offensive fire power throughout the game.
In the top of the first inning, Purdue Fort Wayne would score off a double steal with Camden Karczewski stealing home plate from third putting Purdue Fort Wayne on the board and with an early lead of 1-0.
The Tigers would have bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning with zero outs, but would end up leaving runners on base not being able to drive in any runs finishing the bottom of the first inning 1-0.
The Tigers offense would start to pick up in the bottom of the fourth inning with designated hitter Ashton Larson hitting a three run home run putting the tigers up 3-1.
The Tigers would score two more runs thanks to a wild pitch and a RBI single by Derek Curiel.
While the Tigers offense picked up momentum, the pitching and fielding were thriving with starting pitcher Chase Shores finishing the game with five innings pitched, allowing one earned run, three hits and seven strikeouts.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Ashton Larson hit a RBI double that would put the tigers up 8-1. Larson finished the game with three hits, one home run and five RBI’s.
The bullpen for the Tigers would go on to dominate, giving up two hits and zero runs for the remainder of the game giving the Tigers the victory and series sweep.
LSU Baseball will prepare for in-state competition as they will take Southern at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
