The LSU Tigers defeated the Southern Jaguars 13-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Alec Box Stadium.
LSU’s left-handed pitcher, Conner Ware, played a critical role in the win, holding the Jaguars scoreless for three innings.
Head coach Jay Johnson praised Ware’s performance, stating, “He believes in himself, he really attacks his zone. He’ll be a huge part of the staff, and I was happy to get him out there today.”
Junior designated hitter Ethan Frey had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate. He launched his first career home run in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 11-0.
Frey says, “That’s just the one time it actually went my way… I guess I just made a perfect swing on a good pitch.” Coach Johnson was unfazed by the home run, mentioning, “I’ve seen him hit so many home runs in intersquad games before… the guy’s got more power than anyone on the team.”
Frey, who underwent shoulder surgery over the summer, revealed that his recovery process was tough. “The past eight months have been pretty hard,” he shared.
“Recovery was really tough, but I’m completely healthy now.”
The game concluded after the top of the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule. With the win, LSU improved to 4-0 on the season, while Southern fell to 2-2.
The Tigers now look to continue their hot streak as they prepare to hit the road for the first time this season to face Nicholls on Wednesday night.
