In a commanding fashion, the LSU Tigers beat the South Carolina Gamecocks 81-67 in Baton Rouge. Along with the win against Oklahoma on February 15th, this is the Tiger’s first back-to-back win since December. LSU’s overall record improves to 14-12 and 3-10 in the SEC.
Senior guard Cam Carter led the Tigers to victory with 17 points and two steals shooting 7 for 14 from the field and 3 for 7 from beyond the arc. Carter’s high motor kept his team’s competitiveness up as South Carolina never had an opportunity to take over this game.
Mike Williams III put up a season-high of 13 points along with Vyctorius Miller adding 12, and Dji Bailey contributing 11.
Coach Matt McMahon was pleased with his team’s effort and believes they are making strides in the right direction. In the past five games, his key takeaways were fewer turnovers and a higher shooting percentage from three.
Although this season isn’t going exactly how South Carolina planned their own Jamarii Thomas put up very impressive numbers against the Tigers. Thomas scored 23 points, 19 of which came from the second half, on 9 for 16 shooting from the field.
LSU will now begin preparing to take on the No. 2 team in the country, the Florida Gators in the PMAC on Saturday, February 22nd at 5 p.m. Central.
