With the Carnival season coming up students can expect festivities and parades to begin, but they should also be responsible and take precaution. Associate Director of Communications for LSU Residential Life, Catherine David, commented on what LSU wants for its students during this season.
“We just want all of our LSU students to make good choices during carnival season and stick together in groups and really look after one another,” David said.
Celebrating responsibly is also important for students as it ensures safety and enjoyment of your time and others around you. There are many resources available to students and they are encouraged to use them, especially during this season.
“During carnival season, LSU police, the Student Health Center and several student organizations are out tabling and at different events like the Mardi Gras Mambo hosted by campus life coming up soon to help them engage with resources they may not know about.”
It’s easy for groups to be separated in large parades, so students should always keep an eye out for one another.
“You know just like living on campus we talk about community a lot, that extends outside of campus and so we want everybody to feel like they’re a part of the tiger community and look out for one another. So we want everybody to go enjoy carnival season whether it’s you know your first time here or you’re from the New Orleans area or the Baton Rouge area, we want you to be able to go out, have some fun, enjoy the sights and sounds of Louisiana and then come back to campus safe.”
LSU hopes all students are able to enjoy the season safely.
