LSU was without a familiar face Thursday night.
Aneesah Morrow missed her first career game due to a foot injury. She wore a boot on her left foot.
“[She] has no structural damage, no ligaments, no broken bones,” Mulkey said. “She got stepped on in the Texas game… it’s just sore.”
Morrow’s inability to play opened a window of opportunity for Jersey Wolfenbarger and Sa’Myah Smith to take control of the paint.
The two combined for 24 rebounds Thursday night and clearly stated how the frontcourt can operate going into the postseason.
Wolfenbarger finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 8-of-12 from the foul line. Smith added another 12 rebounds and 11 points.
Morrow sitting out Thursday night’s matchup was strictly precautionary, as LSU is headed into a stretch of games featuring three SEC opponents that each offer a challenge of their own.
“What better time to rest than tonight,” Mulkey said. “The last three are tough as nails, teams that we’re getting ready to see.”
LSU will take the court on Sunday and will once again be tested.
The Tigers will head on the road to take on No. 14 Kentucky on Sunday at 4 p.m. C.T. on ESPN.
