On a cold, wet night at Alex Box Stadium, LSU was able to win their weekend series against the Omaha Mavericks, winning by a score of 12-1.
Starting pitcher Chase Shores tossed five shutout innings on his way to securing the win, striking out six and walking two.
“This outing was good,” Shores said, “Just wanted to set the tempo, have a clean inning in the first and let our hitters do their thing,”
Shores also took time to praise his backstop Luis Hernandez, who has been a professional presence behind the dish.
“I see a future big league player and I love him catching for me,” Shores said of his catcher. “He’s a great teammate too.”
Shores was not the only remnant of the 2023 National Championship team that had a big game, as Jared Jones had a night of his own.
“Obviously today was going to be a long day,” Jones said, who went 3-for-5 with a double and five runs batted in. “We had to go out and win one inning at a time.
The team will take this win and look to carry this momentum as they head into their Monday matchup against Nicholls State.
