The LSU Tigers fell to the No.2 Florida Gators on Saturday in their 11th SEC loss of the season.
The Tigers came out swinging in the first half, and the game looked like it might fall in the Tigers favor as they went into the half up 37-31.
“I thought they punked us for the back half of the first half.” Florida head coach Todd Golden said. “They went on a 22-2 run, made some big threes, played with a lot of confidence and didn’t allow us to operate very comfortably offensively…at half time we had to recalibrate.”
After the half, Florida came back ready to fight, and the Tigers didn’t seem prepared. The second half struggles that have plagued the team this season were in full force against them once again.
“In the second half, and we’ve continued to struggle with this, is when they beat us off the dribble.” Head coach Matt McMahon said. “…It started with the transition off our own turnovers and mistakes and then finished with our inability to contain the dribble one-on-one.”
While there were bright sports within the rough second half for the Tigers, they didn’t shine for too long as turnovers plagued the Tigers, effectively ending any shot at a comeback.
“I feel like later in the game we were a little sloppy with the ball.” Freshman guard Robert Miller III said. “I feel like we could have been a little stronger on the turnover and rebounding.”
The Tigers are now 14-13 on the season with more tough SEC play to come, starting with the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers on February 25th.
