The LSU Tigers lost against the Tennessee Volunteers 65-59 in the PMAC Tuesday night.
Even though the result wasn’t what the Tigers would hope, Coach Matt McMahon was proud of his players after a fought loss against another top five team.
“I think it was against the No. 1 and No. 3 defenses in the country these past two games, so I certainly want to give Tennessee their credit. I think Tennessee with their physicality and toughness were really disruptive.”
LSU limited a powerful Tennessee team to only 65 points, with periods of the game where the defense didn’t allowed points. Especially throughout the first half where the Tigers only allowed 26 points. McMahon is well aware of what his team defficiencies throught the match.
“I thought their second-chance points ended up being the difference in the game. Our field goal defense was certainly good enough to give us a chance, but when you’re playing against a team that’ll contend to go to the Final Four, you can’t give up that many second opportunities against a team of their caliber.”
LSU Guard, Cam Carter is still focused on the remaining schedule of the team. With a very clear focus.
“I mean, we still have what three, four guaranteed games. I think we do it to ourselves a lot of times and we’re just gonna take these mistakes and then fix them and carry them onto the next game and you know, just keep getting better.”
It is clear that the team understands that this year is part of the transition of making LSU Men’s Basketball a winning program, with a strong focus on the transfer portal, and a continuation of the young players on the team.
LSU still has three more SEC games left, against Mississippi State, Kentucky and Texas A&M before the SEC Tournament.
