KLSU Radio is having its annual fundraiser to raise funds for the station’s future.
The fundraiser will be kicked off with an event at Baton Rouge Music Studios in Mid City on March 8th from 1-6 p.m. There will be performances by Brewster Durbin, Evie Richard, Sunscape, Kitchen Sink Water and Issy; multiple vendors selling art, paintings, clothes, and more. After that, the station will be having a radio-athon from March 10th through March 16th to raise funds.
“I honestly don’t know if I could be as happy as I am now if I hadn’t stumbled into KLSU and became DJ Purrty Kitty,” KLSU Chief Announcer Lindsey Foles said, “and I love fundraiser so much it kept me around LSU another semester. I love getting to meet listeners and alumni of the school and station. It’s just very enjoyable to see a long running tradition that is a celebration of our station and our community.”
The purpose of KLSU’s fundraiser is to raise money for the station to keep it a fun learning environment for students so they can get real job experience while going to classes. And in a rapidly changing media landscape, new equipment and upgrades are often needed, so fundraiser helps to offset those costs.
“I’ve gotten to cover press conferences, interview high profile individuals, host podcasts and specialty coverage, break news and learn how to lead a team,” KLSU News Director Mel Bridges said. “I’ve been allowed to make mistakes and learn from them, allowing me to become a better journalist, boss, coworker and radio host. I never could have imagined I would have so much under my belt at such a young age, or even the confidence to talk about it as freely as I am now.”
KLSU will be giving their new merchandise out to donors at the event and all through the next week. Those looking to donate should call 225-578-5578 or go to klsuradio.fm from March 10th-16th.
