On Monday February 24th, Louisiana State Universities Injustice Reform gave students the opportunity to learn about the justice system firsthand at an event focused on legal rights and criminal justice reform.
This group brought together legal experts, law enforcement, and correctional officials to share their insights.
The event featured a panel of attorneys, wardens, and Baton Rouge’s Chief of Police, all discussing the importance of students knowing their legal rights.
The speakers emphasized how education is key to both preventing injustices and advocating for meaningful reform.
Students left the event empowered with new knowledge and encouraged to engage with the legal system in an informed and proactive way.
The Injustice Reform hopes that events like this will inspire future leaders in law and policy.
“I think the top three rights that students should know about and probably do not know about is the right to advocate for themselves. You guys have all these channels, all these people that care about you and want you to advocate for yourself. The right to be informed. The right to remain silent, you have the right to not talk and to not say a word cause that is your right.” President of Injustice Reform LSU A’Shawna Smith said.
LSU continues to provide opportunities for students to gain real-world knowledge on critical issues.
