The LSU Women’s Tennis team’s performance was a domination against Kentucky on Friday.
And two standout freshman played a key part in making that happen. One of them being Cadence Brace.
“She was exceptional,” LSU Women’s Tennis Head Coach Taylor Foglemnan said. “Handled herself like a professional and put out a very professional performance.”
Brace started the match playing doubles alongside teammate Kinaa Graham. Their performance started off shaky with Kentucky showing promise at the first serve, but Head Fogleman believed the two could have won in the end before the match up was stopped due to two other matches finishing first; leaving the match up incomplete.
“Once they started doing what they needed to, the match did flip and I think they actually were probably going to win the match.”
Though Brace and Graham weren’t able to finish their doubles, they showed no signs of defeat as they entered their singles matches.
“They’ve been doing this, both of them, a long time. They’re excellent players and can put semi-bad performances, even in the doubles, behind them and go and take care of business in the singles.”
And they did just that. Brace was the second of six to complete her match after winning against Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond 6-2 followed by 6-0.
“I tried to play quicker, play an aggressive style, keep the points short,” LSU Women’s Tennis player Cadence Brade said.
Fellow freshman Tilwith “Tilly” Di Girolami finished her singles just before Brace. Tilly finished 6-2 in both matches to close out the first LSU singles win of the night; and had a smile on her face while doing it.
“What you see in the matches is what she brings every day in the practice Pretty easy young lady . . . plays some great tennis,” Fogleman said.
Coach Fogleman says he’s excited about the conference win and plans to serve up another win on Sunday against Tennessee.
