LSU Women’s Basketball vs. Ole Miss. Senior Night. Excited fans, overall just a great celebration at the PMAC.
The Tigers commanded the first half, leading 44-31. At halftime, an outstanding crowd showed up, giving a standing ovation to the departing seniors.
Ole Miss ended the party early as they outperform the Tigers 52-33 in the second half.
The key to the upset was pretty clear for both head coaches.
“This game, we turned them over 23 times and had 27 points,” said Ole Miss Head Coach, Yolett McPhee-McCuin.
“You gotta take care of the ball. That’s really what costed you the game. You just turn it over and consequently they won the game,” said coach Mulkey.
Aneesah Morrow shined tonight, scoring 28 points, and 12 rebounds.
The Tigers sum up three losses in their last 5 games, this being the first home loss of the season.
“The part I do feel for are the senior loosing on their senior day.”
Kim Mulkey, decided to rest Flau’jae Johnson, all the way to the NCAA Tournament. She mad it very clear that there is nothing to worry about.
“I sat Flau’jae, the doctor didn’t told her she had to sit, the trainer didn’t told her she had to sit. I just decided after Alabama, we are a three seed no matter if we win another ball game or not.”
The next step for the Tigers is the SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. There, the Tigers could face Alabama, Texas, and South Carolina, three teams that have already defeated them this season.
“I am not sure if we are going to be playing all three if I’m honest with you. When you don’t have there all your weapons, all you can do is go out there and compete,” added coach Mulkey.
Players understand how much they will miss Flau’jae during the SEC Tournament.
“Flau’jae brought a defensive mentality and defensive presence to the floor,” said Mikaylah Williams.
LSU could probably still host a game at the PMAC in the NCAA Tournament. This would be the last chance for seniors.
