With Mardi Gras season now over, everyone is left thinking about what to do with all the beads they have.
Many people get excited to catch all these beads but then don’t know what to do after the festivities are over. Throughout this season, over twenty five million pounds of beads are thrown during parades in New Orleans.
“I normally recycle them if I’m in the parade for the next year, I throw them or like the big beads I keep them and wear them during Mardi Gras Time,” said LSU student, Trinity Jones.
If you ever pay attention after the parades you’ll find a large amount of beads and trash on the floor. Most of the time these beads are left throughout the whole city.
With these beads being made out of plastic, they are very damaging to the ecosystem and will cause an increase in pollution.
Some sources do offer bead recycling like Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance, ArcGNO, Salvation Army, and more.
Help keep Louisiana clean after Mardi Gras season by recycling your beads to reduce waste.
I never knew but that is a good idea because I never know what to do with these beads,” said Jones.
