LSU Softball kicked off their Round Robin Friday night in a nearly perfect performance against South Alabama, winning 18-4 after ending the game in the fifth inning.
The Tigers started off strong with at bats from Right Fielder McKenzie Redoutey and First Baseman Tori Edwards, resulting in the Tigers taking a 11-0 lead at the end of the second inning.
Right then and there, South Alabama had a hard time scratching their way out of this deficit and in the end, weren’t able to make crucial plays in the infield and at bat.
Despite South Alabama racking in four runs in the top of the fifth inning with the help of First Baseman Katie Schuler hitting a home run, it was too late for a Cinderella story to happen, as LSU had too much firepower at bat for the Jaguars to handle.
All four of the Jaguars pitchers ended their night allowing an average of 4.5 runs and showed that they were not able to handle the Tigers one bit.
LSU’s Edwards, who is only a redshirt-freshman, already has 22 runs in the season and is a huge reason for why the Tigers sit at No. 5 in the NCAA rankings.
After an unforgettable win for LSU, they plan to take this momentum into Saturday and Sunday as they host the Minnesota Gophers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
