LSU gymnastics had their senior night against the University of Georgia in the PMAC on Friday at 7:30 P.M.
Senior night makes all of the athletes emotional, so it has the potential to harm or help the athletes’ performances. In LSU gymnastics case, it helped big time. Their routines were electric and record breaking. LSU scored 198.575, which is a record high, but that is not the only record that was made that night.
It was the first time that the PMAC has been sold out four times consecutively for LSU gymnastics.
Although the seniors were formally celebrated by family and friends at the end of the meet, the gymnasts performed every routine in their honor. Coach Clark emphasized this mindset for all of the ladies throughout the week. Aleah Finnegan believes this is what allowed her to score a 10.000.
“When you do it for each other, then the results are set,” Finnegan said.
It was this Olympian’s third 10 of the season and tenth in her collegiate career. Finnegan is one of LSU’s most talented athletes and it is not an overstatement to say she is adored by her teammates.
“One of the best teammates and best friends,” Alyssa Ballard said, “She is always going to give you 100%.”
Another decorated LSU senior gymnast is Haleigh Bryant. She was an anchor for this team, whether it was before, during or after events.
Another successful senior in a different light is Olivia Dunne. The influencer and gymnast was unable to compete due to a knee injury but was still celebrating alongside her teammates. She mentioned in the senior tribute that she hopes to show that college students can accomplish anything, like entrepreneurship.
LSU is losing10 talented seniors after this season, but there are plenty of underclassmen to live out their legacy and protect the crown.
