Cam Carter has been exactly what LSU Basketball needs in every moment this season. Coming up big with 16.8 points per game and over 4 rebounds per game, the guard has done everything he hoped to.
“Just thinking about those hours where I prayed to God to have these opportunities,” said Carter. “I wanted to come here and be a leader and be looked up to when these big moments come up.”
While he is spending what could be his last season of college basketball in his home state, it’s been a journey to get back. That journey started just 45 minutes south in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
Cam has fond memories of growing up in Donaldsonville detailing spending time at his grandmother’s house, playing basketball with his brothers, and dreaming of what was next for him.
In his senior year of high school, he transferred from East Ascension to the famed Oak Hill Academy which propelled his young career leading him to Starkville.
Carter spent his first year of college at Mississippi State developing, and getting used to his new avenue of life in college basketball, which he says felt necessary.
“That was a season of growth and maturity for me.” Carter said when asked about his freshman year. “Coming in as a freshman kind of feeling entitled…it was humbling but I learned a lot.”
After his short time at Mississippi State, Carter went back up north to Kansas State, and he shot off from there averaging 14.6 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game.
“It was another leap of faith.” He stated. “That was a great experience though and I was able to learn how to work hard. I was already a hard worker, but just being intentional with my workouts.”
But, when it was all said and done Cam knew he had to finish exactly where he started.
“Once I found out it was a rule to where we can transfer again,” He said “I’m like ‘Man we got to end this off at home’.”
Cam Carter has an undeniable impact on LSU Men’s Basketball and going into the SEC Tournament, his home team will need him more than ever.
