On Wednesday afternoon, LSU Softball players Danieca Coffey and Sydney Berzon spoke to the media about their mindset going into this weekend as they face Kentucky.
Coffey, LSU’s starting third baseman, emphasized how crucial it is to have an everyday mindset, especially when preparing for a teamlike Kentucky. As a fifth-year senior, Coffey also addressed how at the collegiate level, it matters more about how a player is mentally prepared rather than physically.
“It’s literally just in your mind,” Coffey said. “You just got to remember to stay calm. Every pitch and every at bat should matter exactly the same … like it’s a black curtain. That’s something you have to learn and even me being a fifth year like I’m still learning that.”
Berzon, one of LSU’s veteran pitchers, would continue to touch up on Coffey’s main point of having that everyday mindset for each game, stating how having a tough team furthers progress. For her, the youth of the team this year compared to years prior has brought a sense of power and has helped players with their mindset on the field.
“This team is full of opportunity and doesn’t really feel like we’re gonna get knocked down easily,” Berzon said. “I think we appreciate learning from failures and creating opportunities.”
No. 4 LSU will face No.23 Kentucky at Tiger Park Friday at 6:00 p.m to kick off their start of SEC play.
