No.1 LSU Baseball defeated Xavier 18-4 on Tuesday, March 11. This marks LSU’s 12th straight win as they move to 17-1 on the season.
The Tigers started the game strong racking up 17 runs in the first three innings. In the first inning, Jared Jones and Daniel Dickinson would hit back-to-back home runs to put the Tigers up 4-0.
Josh Pearson and Steven Milam would reach base on a hit and walk, respectively. Jake Brown slips one past the first baseman to score Pearson.
Luis Hernandez followed that up with a double play leading to a Milam score. Next up Tanner Reaves doubles to right field and Stanfield brings him home with a single into left-center.
The lineup would turnover bringing Freshman Derek Curiel up to bat. He missed a home run by a few inches and gets gunned down reaching for three, amongst the chaos Stanfield reaches home.
That was all in the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Tigers rallied with two outs. Jake Brown and Luis Hernandez would record their second RBIs of the night here.
Xavier would shoot themselves in the foot in the third inning by walking home two runs. Brown singled up the middle to score Dickinson and record his third RBI.
With the bases loaded, Redshirt Junior Tanner Reaves came up to the plate and hit a grand slam into right field to put the Tigers up 17-0 in the third.
That would mark the end of the barrage of scoring for the Tigers.
This was the last game before SEC play for the Tigers.
“I think we’re ready for it, I mean we’re having fun, we’re rolling,” Tanner Reaves said on starting SEC play. “Competing together, so we’re all excited for it and ready to get going.”
