For generations, families and students have gathered to see Mike the Tiger run down Victory Hill on game days, and no one walks away from meeting him without a smile on their face. His ecstatic energy is unmatched as he represents the ultimate love and pride for LSU.
For those who live for the purple and gold, Team Mike is the place for you. Being a part of this team is a once and a once in a lifetime opportunity, and this opportunity comes around every year.
Tryouts offer students the chance to join Mike’s team and represent the one and only Mike the Tiger.
“He is the icon of LSU,” said Blair Fritts, member of Team Mike.
This icon is the life of the party. He brings the excitement and energy to every stadium, arena, and room he graces. Not only does Mike cheer on his fellow tigers at sports events, but he makes special appearances at promotional and campus events, charities, and more.
This task could not be done without a team of carefully chosen students who escort and support Mike during his many public appearances.
“Being a part of Team Mike is the most important role because you represent LSU as a whole organization and Mike the Tiger himself,” said Fritts.
Representing LSU’s most popular tiger on campus is a full time job.
“Honestly, it is a big time commitment. Mike has a very busy schedule, so keep that in mind if you are looking to try out,” said Fritts.
Earning those stripes is a secret process that we cannot divulge, but what we can share is that tryouts take three days, include an interview, and is a dream for all die hard LSU fans.
For those looking to try out, preparation is simple.
“Just bring all your energy and passion for LSU and show us what you could bring to Team Mike,” said Fritts.
You can check out the LSU athletics website for more information on the upcoming tryouts. There will be two information sessions on March 26th and April 9th to give interested parties more information.
