LSU Baseball – Conference play kicked off in baseball today, and LSU played their first SEC game this season against Missouri at 4:30 P.M. CST in Alex Box Stadium.
LSU won 12 -5 with a dominant offensive performance. Despite the heat and humidity, fans filled the stadium and cheered on their fighting tigers in this exciting game one match up.
Left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson pitched until the 6th inning and threw 95 pitches. He struck out 11 of the 15 batters. The sophomore gave the tigers a quick and strong start in the top of the first with three up and three down.
In the bottom of the first with two outs, Ethan Frey reached first base on a throwing error by Missouri’s shortstop, and Daniel Dickinson advanced to third. It seemed like LSU was going to put some runs on the board, but Steven Milam’s hit was caught.
Missouri shortstop Jackson Lovich scored the first homer of the game, allowing left-fielder Brock Daniels to score in the top of the second.
LSU center, Luis Hernandez responded with a homer and brought his teammate right-fielder Josh Pearson with him. At the end of the inning, the score was tied 2 – 2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Curiel tripled and brought three runners in (Stanfield, Braswell III, and Pearson). After that play, Missouri had a pitcher change to Brock Lucas.
Lucas struggled at first and allowed Brown to hit a single to the right and Jared Jones scored.
Missouri’s record is now 8 – 9 and LSU 18 – 1.
LSU proved they deserve the no. 1 title and showed they are not as reliant on the defense. The first pitch for game two is Saturday at 6:30 P.M. CST in Alex Box Stadium.
