LSU Gymnastics Head Coach Jay Clark spoke to the media on Monday afternoon about the team’s outstanding road performance against the Auburn Tigers, and how the team’s momentum will be a huge factor as they travel to Birmingham in hopes of winning an SEC Championship.
Clark expressed how proud he was for the team to compete the way they did Friday night against Auburn to finish off strong in the regular season. Despite LSU taking home a share of the SEC Regular Season Title with Oklahoma for the first time since 2018, Clark has his team focused on what’s ahead of them.
“There’s a lot of teams capable of winning it (SEC Championship),” Clark said. “It’s just gonna come down to … the mindset of who gets hot. So much of it this time of year can be momentum driven and when you catch momentum you better try to hold onto it.”
Clark and his team claimed the No. 2 seed in the SEC Championship and will appear in the night session along with No.1 Oklahoma, No.3 Florida and No.4 Missouri. LSU plans to start the meet on bars and finish on vault.
With the top four teams being all within the SEC, Clark understands how competitive the SEC Championship will be in Birmingham as well as competing for nationals.
“There’s a lot of teams that are in the mix for this thing, especially in our conference going forward nationally,” Clark said. “Arkansas was at the national championship last year so I mean it’s wide open.”
No. 2 LSU will travel to Birmingham and will compete in the night session on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
