LSU Baseball defeated Missouri 12-5 on Friday night. Sophomore Kade Anderson pitched a career high 6.1 innings and tied his career high with 11 strikeouts.
Anderson got tested early when he gave up a two-run homer in the second inning. Following that hiccup, he would record eight strikeouts and only give up two hits until his exit in the seventh.
“It’s obviously easy when you got our team scoring 12 runs, it makes it pretty stress-free knowing that basically every time we step out there that they’re going to score 10 plus runs,” Anderson said.
In the win, four Tigers recorded multiple RBIs. Sophomore Jake Brown would continue his stellar play by recording four RBIs on two hits. That marks his second straight game with more than three RBIs.
“He’s been really good, he’s been really good,” Coach Johnson said. “Did a great job tonight, I mean I think he had four RBI’s in three AB’s, sign me up for that everyday.”
Coach Johnson highlighted the play from freshman Derek Curiel, who had a three RBI triple to kickstart a five-run inning for the Tigers,“I don’t worry every about his mindset, some guys are born to play baseball and born to line up the barrel with the baseball, he’s one of those guys,” Coach Johnson said.
Missouri would make costly errors throughout the game. They gifted LSU eight free bases by way of walking and hitting batters. There were also a few instances of players losing the ball in the sky.
Against a team like LSU, those types of errors will be exploited, and they were. Five of LSU’s 12 runs came by a base runner who was walked or hit by pitch.
LSU Baseball will be back inside Alex Box on Saturday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. CT as they take on Missouri in the second game of a three-game series.
